Photography Question

how to get vignette on background

How do you get the vignette effect, or spotlight effect on your background. I use a three light set, I have a soft box, two umbrella's, and a snoot with grid. I can not seem to get the oval or or round shape on the backround. It either lights the whole thing or kind of a funny blob shape.

Have you tried placing a light on a small background stand behind your subject and aiming the light upward at the background? Another thing to consider is that some backgrounds are painted with a natural vignette already on them.
