Digital Sports Photography-Indoor Basketball

I am not a very experienced photographer but I have recently bought the Minolta Dimage 7i 5 megapixel digital camera with hopes of learning more about photography and catching those great moments of my two sons playing their various sports. I am having some problems with indoor basketball pictures. The camera has taken incredible outdoor action shots but this low-light gymnasium is giving me problems. Stopping the action is not the problem; the graininess of the end result is the problem. I was using mainly 1/125,1/180, and 1/250 with f2.8 at no zoom to f3.5 up to 200mm zoom. The ISO setting was 400 or 800 with no bulb flash. I was really excited about these pictures (because I was able to capture some very nice action shots) until I got home and actually viewed them on the monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences that would help me?
