Capturing Motion without stopping it I am trying to capture motion, such as a flag waving or somebody turning their head. I don't want to freeze the action but be able to see the blur of the action or the suggestion of the action. What is a good starting point..? I know it is more than a 30th of a sec. Would a minute be to long or short and what would be a good aperture for a gray day in Michigan..?

For capturing motion, the best thing is to start with either a 1/15, 1/30 or 1/60 shutter speed (slower for slower moving objects, around maybe 1/8). Then after you set your shutter speed, set the aperature to bring your exposure to a close. Set the aperature according to what your camera meters as correct with the corresponding shutter speed. Good luck!

A minute would be way too long. It would probably render the flag invisible. There is really no way for us to say what the best speed is because we don't know how fast your subject is moving. Start at 1/60 and bracket shutter spees down to 1sec and look at the results. Don't be afraid to experiment. Film isn't that expensive.
