"...what kind of classes I will have to take to become a phtotgrapher?" - Short anser: none. Long answer: you don't really need to take classes if you don't want to. There is plenty of info on the subject in books and nothing replaces shooting. If you want to take classes basic photography classes will give you a good base of knowledge. In addition to that you could take art classes, graphic design classes, computer classes, Photoshop classes, and maybe most importantly business classes because whatever you do you are, in the end, going to be running a business. Being knowledgeable about business is half the battle.

I agree with Jeff to a point. You do not need schooling *if* you work very diligently on your own. Many very successful independent photography studio owners never took any formal classes, but they did have to work very hard to thoroughly learn the craft and to build their business. The craft includes knowing and having skill with both the technical and the artistic aspects of photography. The technical part provides the tools; the artistic part provides the vision for what to make with the tools.

Jeff's suggestions for an appropriate mix of courses is very good. Remember you are planning on owning a small business and you want it to succeed. Not to discourage you, but remember when you start yours that the majority of small businesses fail within the first few years; sometimes within the first few months. Almost always it's because the owner didn't know how to start and maintain a profitable business, not because the product or service wasn't good.

Most who do have four year degrees have a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from a university that has a decent photography program as part of their Fine Arts College.
