The Minolta Xi is a really neat little gizmo. Its auto-exposure system should be able to handle typical night shots, with or without flash, without any problem. It even has a burst feature which lets you take shots at 2.5fps. However, there are a few areas where you may find some limitations: The maximum flash reach is only 9.5 feet. You will have to get pretty close to the deer! The optical zoom is only 111mm equivalent. Again, you'll have to be pretty close. The Xi is an automatic-only camera. There's no way to adjust the shutter speed or the aperture independently (although there is exposure compensation). You're stuck with whatever the camera decides. Given that, the Xi is about the size of a pack of smokes, so you're much more likely to have it in your pocket when deer lurk about. If you get serious, start saving for a Digital SLR, 80-200 f2.8, Vivitar 285 flash and a Better Beamer. Good luck! Seymour Shotz
