how to shoot musical instrument


My son wants to take a picture of his trumpet on a dark background. What is the best way to light the trumpet without getting alot of glare back?

I shot my son's french horn on a black background for several different still lifes. I shoot these images indoors, with natural light close to a south facing window in the afternoon. I wanted maximum depth of field for my shots, so using a tripod, F36 and about 10 second exposures I was able to get nice even light without any glare. Here are my results using this technique.
