Reprints from old color negatives Is there something I can do to help my mini-lab produce better prints from negatives that are 10-20 years old? The negatives have been well cared for and are in good condition, but I've been disappointed in recent reprint results. Is there anything I can tell them that might make an improvement?

Hi Robin, Your mini-lab is probably set in their ways. If your on friendly terms, you can talk to the manager and ask how often they change their chemicals, what their redo rate is, etc. You can also look around for a more professional - albeit more expensive - lab. There is a huge difference between a $6/roll lab and a $18/roll lab. The latter might be able to do a more satisfying job with your negatives. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that how the negatives were developed might also be partially at fault. Cheaper negative developers often leave out a step that is important to the longevity of your negatives. Have someone who knows negatives take a look.
