APS vs 35mm

Is there a difference in quality between APS and 35mm format in P&S? Also, is a small-zoom better than a fixed focal length?

There is no general rule that one format is better than the other; the quality is determined more by the limitations of a point and shoot.

I like a zoom better than a fixed-focal length because it gives me great compositional flexibility. Although many of the old timers have argued for years that fixed lenses are sharper (because they contain less elements), I have not seen better quality in fixed focal length lenses - especially not in point and shoot cameras.
