How To Take Professional Photos of My Daughter My husband and I have a semi-nice SLR camera. I believe that it is made by Minolta but I am not sure of the model. We are interested in taking professional type photos of our daughter. I have some questions to get started. What kind of film should we use? Speed, brand, etc. We like both color and B&W. How do we get the film processed to achieve professional results? We have several labs in our city but I am not sure what to ask for. What kind of equipment do we need? Are there any good basic books that talk about composition, features of a camera, subjects, etc. that would be helpful for us? Any other advice woudl be helpful. Thanks.

Hi Shana, This is a question that would best be answered by reading "The Absolute Beginners Guide to Taking Great Photos." This fine guide to basic photography can be purchased via a link that you will find on the home page of this site. I have read it and would highly recommend it to any beginning photographer.

Hi Shana, I was in the same boat as you a couple years ago. I surfed the internet a ton on www.google.com, searching for "portrait tips", "senior portrait tips", "photography portraits", etc. Any combination of searches brought up professional websites, tips and techniques and "book store" sites and recommendations. Amazon.com has a great selection of books you can find by typing in similar words as above. I've bought a few books and while many of them have outdated pictures (very 80's look), the tips and techniques are very helpful. good luck,
