How to enlarge a photo with sharpness?

I want to enlarge some of my photos but not sure if I can maintain the sharpness .

As I know a tripod is necessary and helpful to get a sharp photo. I want to know if I need use a particular kind of film to guarantee the sharpness.

Thanks.

This matter is discussed well in two places, first at http://people.smu.edu/rmonagha/third/
and also at luminous-landscape.com. You may have to dig for their articles on sharpness. Both of these guys are admitted gearheads, and both graciously concede that it's not the lens maker AS MUCH as it is proper hand-holding, or use of a tripod, fine grain films (I like Fuji Provia 100), and f-stops of maybe 5.6 0r f8. They both say it better than I.
