Extracting end of film from 35mm film cassette

On loading a new film into my Nikon F60 end of the film did not take up on the spool correctly and as it is auto take-up the film rewound completely into the cassette. In the past I have been able to prise the end cap off and pull the film out through the slot and refit the end cap, but the cassettes now seem to be crimped in place. How can I grab hold of the end of the film through the slot? Is there some sort of simple tool I can make? Do you have a diagram of such a thing? your help would be appreciated.

Yes, there is a tool made specifically for this. Most camera stores have them, if not for sale they usually at least have one for instances like yours. Or you could just throw it away and get another roll. Film's not THAT expensive. ;-)))
