Red Blotchy Skin

My wife and I are trying to become decent photographers, instead we seem to be ruining everything!
Can anyone tell me why our Rebel 2000 always shows red blotchy skin when used indoors? We have a Rebel 2000 and mainly use the Automatic feature.
Attached is a picture of our 6 week old daughter, the scanned picture actually looks better than the original.
In the original every vein and freckle seems magnified.
Help...please!!

The camera you use doesn't matter in regard to the colors you get in your pictures (with the exception of what the built in flash can do - which may be one of your problems). Other causes of this include: photographing people with blotchy skin (oddly enough), your film choice (what are you using?), a poor photo lab, photographing people in cold air (some people get red blotchy skin when they are cold). Other than the flash the camera shouldn't affect tones in your photos.

BTW, if you are trying to become better photographers you need to learn about exposure so you don't have to use "the Automatic feature".
