Which lense for Minolta I am seriously considering the Minolta Maxxum 5 as my first SLR camera...however, I have a few questions about the lenses to go along with it. First I would like to ask which brand (if any) delivers the best quality? I am curious about Quantaray, as they seem to be associated with Minolta a lot...but I am open to any suggestions, so please let me know about your experiences with basic lenses and which brands are most compatible with Minolta. Thanks very much, Kindra

Hi K, Quantaray is a good lens considering that it is made by Sigma. Sigma makes the Quantaray lens exclusively for Ritz camera. The next question is that some people perfer to by the brand lens that the camera is and others do by other lenses, it just boils down to which lens do you want and which lens do you like better. Hi Kindra, Minolta lenses are the best choice for Minolta cameras. Very compact, well-made, excellent sharpness and contrast, but some problems with distorsion are the characteristics of Minolta consumer lens. I love Sigma lenses, but they have medium sharpness, a bit warmer colors, and significal bokeh. Tokina has an optimal balance between sharpness, colors, contrast and distorsion, and standard (medium) quality. Quantaray, Vivitar and Cosina are third category lens. They are mostly plastic and not so modern made lens, with (usually) larger constructions, and problems with vigneting and distorsion. But, for a beginner use they are acceptable. I can recommend wide-angle zoom 19-35 f/3,5-4,5, made by Cosina as a useful cheap lens. Finally: if third party lens are 10-30% cheaper, I should recommend buying Minolta lenses. Dynax 5 is a pretty small camera and needs compact lenses, with a full compatibility and funcionality. Those are Minolta lenses. George.
