Scanning Slides

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a good scan from a slide using a Hewlett-PPacker Scanjet Transparency Adapter? I get great scans from prints, but when I scan slides I lose a lot of sharpness and sometimes have lines in the darker areas of the picture. I'm not sure if it is the equipment or if I am doing something wrong.

If you use the highest possible resolution, you might pull it off. I'd try 1200 ppi at least, if the scanner can do it.

Thanks Doug. I have been using 1200 ppi and sometimes I get pretty good scans but have to sharpen them in my printing software. When the lines appear in the scans I don't know what to do about it. I've tried to find out from the help program in the software, but it never talks about line problems--at least that I have been able to find.

Carol, you may be exceeding what this scanner is able to do. If the scan meets your needs in every other respect except for the lines, use the cloning feature in your imaging software to clone pixels over the lines. This is rather tedious, but doable. Books on Photoshop will give you some tips for retouching digital images.

Thanks Doug. I don't have photoshop, but have ordered Photoshop Elements 2. It should be here any day--can't wait. Hopefully it has this feature. I have discovered that I loose some of the lines if I go to a lower resolution (much lower). That is fine for web images, but not so great for printing. Thanks again for responding.
