Color or b&w? There are numerous books on the market that will tell you what you need. B&W is easy and a heck of a lot cheaper than having it done for you. Color is a bit more difficult and may not be as economical.

I remember when I wanted to develop just the film strip of 2 color film roll I shot about 6 years ago, it was intriguing for me and I wanted to learn, so I bought some basic things like chemicals and a few pans, but you have to go for thermometers, an infrared light (I think it is), and do it at night in your bathroom if you live in an apartment, lights totally out in the entire apartment!...

The only thing I didn't like is that the chemicals usually have quick expiration date, and for some you can not buy small amounts like a pint or a quarter, so be rady to buy gallons and half a gallons (if available); and if you don't take many rolls of film might be better just to develop your film strips at your photo lab, because at the end will be cheaper!...
