Japan vs N.America Hi. I've been shopping a bit here in Tokyo and searching a little on the net, and truthfully I am just saturated with info. for trying to purchase my first 35mm SLR. There doesn't seem to be a huge price difference between here and Canada for the basic med-level brands, however I have noticed that the model names/no. are different. My question is, for a beginner who'll be shooting family (kids), landscapes, travel, nature, people (candid) MOSTLY, what Canon or Nikon (lens & body set) do you recommend? Are you aware of the model names/no. here in Japan? Thanks, looking forward to your reply. Kev

I see that you are still undecided, and my best advice is make up your mind (no offense)!... I have a Minolta 400 XtSi w/ 2 vivitars, the 19-35 mm and the 28-300 mm, the first one is for panoramics and perspectives pics, the second is suitable for portraits and not so close subjects like a tiger, a bear or an antilope in the zoo!...The quality is not the best neither the sharpest one in the market!... Now!..I'm an amateur who will like to upgrade to better equipment, and to do so, I'l need to get a better camera (a mid-level), and better lenses with better optics to get sharpest pics (zoom lenses wont give you the sharpest pics, but primes or fixed focal lens wich are called like that also will do)!...What's your budget?...It's your intention to upgrade in the near future?... Those are a few questions you have to ask yourself!... If I was you I'll buy a camera in my country (if you live in the USA), where I can get a warranty or be reimbursed my money in the grace period, or get professional service in english!..'Cause you might never see the salesman in your life if you have a question for him later!... Do your research!..Never buy by impulse!...
