Replacing a lithium battery

I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that keeps blinking the frame number as zero. I have replaced the batteris, cleaned connections, etc. to no avail. I am wondering if the problem might be that the internal lithium battery is exhausted. If so, is there any way that our camera specialist here could be instructed how to replace the battery? Given our remote locaation in the Galapagos, I don't have the option of sending it to a service facility. And what kind of battery would we need to find? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am here in a fantasy photo land without the ability to take a picture....

  Kelly,

I did a little research on the Maxxum 7000. Supposedly the lithium cell is located in a separate compartment under the other batteries. According to the text, one can remove the main battery pack ("AAA" or "AA" cells) and in the bottom of that battery box is a small silver colored metal cover. Removing that cover allows access to the lithium cell. I don't know what tools are required to access it, or what else is inside the lithium cell compartment that might be easily damaged during replacement. Supposedly the 3 Volt lithium battery is a CR2016 "coin" cell.

Go only so far as you feel comfortable with exploring replacing it yourself.
