New Format for contest entries?

What happened to the spot where you say which camera you used to take your picture you are entering into the contest? It has not been there since around Feb 20th...

It is one of the changes in BP's recent retweaking of the site. It has been eliminated from the upload process.

It's a pity... I'd like to see which camera was used to take the photo, especially if it's a great shot.

I don't miss it, really, I suppose. (And you can always type your camera info into the image caption, still---but yes, that is extra work to go through, now.)

To me, the particular camera used isn't a "critical part" of producing a great photograph, so it doesn't much matter to me. BP has Grand Prize photos ranging from cheap point-and-shoots to multi-thousand-dollar pro cameras... the person composing and processing the image has more to do with the final result than the camera body, IMHO. And I wouldn't want to be the person who has to update that monster list of all new camera models every other day ;)

Wouldn't you know they would change that right after I got my Canon 40D! :-(

  Interesting!

Since I haven't uploaded anything new in a while, I guess this old dog will need to learn the requisite new tricks, with which to jump through these most recent set of hoops.

..Oh Boy!!

Seriously though....
I suspect that someone realized that camera bodies are just mindless, empty buckets praying to be filled.
In photography, creativity of content always supercedes. It takes precedant over its container.

...so why bother naming the bucket?

I agree that it matters a lot who is using the camera, but I'd still like to know which camera was used... It matters whether wow! this shot was taken with a point & shoot (this, I should try to do better than that as I have a DSLR) vs it was taken with the camera & lens I have, too (thus, I should be able to achieve it, too) or it was taken with the camera/lens I'll maybe buy in the future (is it good enough for me).

I was bummed about the change at first, but a few people mentioned to me that they often forgot to change the default on upload, so the camera noted wasn't necessarily correct, anyway.

I started adding the camera to my description today, and while I was at it, I added the lens, too (actually more interesting than the camera, to me). But I'd prefer if BP would provide the option to expose these details, as well as aperture, shutter speed, etc, from the EXIF info, for ease and accuracy. And since some people aren't interested in seeing this detail, maybe make it an option which could be turned off for display too. :)

It would be a nice feature to have - option to pull various data from EXIF and display it - that would cover camera body, plus all the other pertinent exposure info :)

FYI - I saw today that the feature to identify your camera model has been restored to the upload process.

I am happy it has been restored. I know it isn't the camera that makes a great image, it's the photographer...but I still like seeing how others use the same cameras I use and the results. I agree with Tiia, and also like Martha's idea. I am a member at another site that does have the EXIf info. I find it is helpful when I am trying to achieve a certain effect being able to see what the settings were.

Another thing that has been tweaked is the categories and what should go in them..More specific than previously, and especially for the catch all and macro categories..maybe they should change catch all to catch some?

  Here it is.

http://www.betterphoto.com/contest/categories.php

This seems to be new (and an excellent idea, I think):

Please do not put photos into this category that could fit into another category.
