Photography Question

Canon 17-55mm f/2.8

Does anyone have this lens? If they do would you please let me know if you feel this too? When I tried this lens out in the shop; during autofocus, there was a "clicking" inside that felt like needles dropping on glass which I really didn't like the feel of. I wanted to know if other people have experienced this or if it was just the lens I tried out.
(The store guy didn't feel what I felt and he said all the lens would be the same.)

Hi! I just bought this lens a couple weeks ago. There are a couple tiny "bumps" when the lens auto-focuses. I have gotten used to the bumps and love the lens. The pictures I have gotten with this lens are SO much better than the ones I could get with my 18-55mm Canon kit lens! I am very happy with the 17-55 f/2.8

bumps not clicks? So your new 17-55mm lens feels like the kit lens when auto focusing? I have the same 18-55mm kit lens that I am going to replace either with this 17-55mm or something else. Cause I hate the crappy piece of kit lens haha
When I tried out the 17-55mm it was like clicks NOT bumps when autofocusing. When using 18-55 it has bumps when auto focusing like normal. the 17-55 I tried out was clicks.
So could you again clarify what you feel in your new lens? thanks and sorry I rambled a little...

Compared to the 18-55mm kit lens, the 17-55 has a much more "expensive" and quality feel. What I mean by "bumping" is this: I can feel the inner focusing element move and then bump at the farthest point of its rotation and then come back, but the lens is very quite. Unless there is absolute silence in the room, I can't hear it make any noise at all. The 18-55 was noisier. I hope this helps!

  It does a bit.
I know what you mean about the quality feel! I felt that too. I also looking at the L series 24-70mm and that is definitely (well obviously cause it's graded as L) more sturdy expensive quality feel. But it's really heavy so that's why I was looking at the one you just got.

Hey laura! Guess what! After what you told me I went to the camera store again and asked to try out a different lens instead of the one on display. I'm SO glad I did, as the one in the box didn't have the clicking thing like the one on display did!!!! :D I think I'm going to get it. :D

Great, Meghan!! I'm happy for you. I love using the lens. It is so comfortable to carry around. (It isn't really heavy.) There is a lot of zoom creep, but since that is the only thing I've discovered that I don't love, the lens is my favorite one I own and my primary work horse for now.
