Automatic Exposure Modes on Nikon D40x When you use the automatic exposure modes on a Nikon D40 or D40x, should you leave the camera on automatic or manual setting?

Keep the camera in the automatic mode. If your lens has a switch on it make sure that is in the Auto mode also. You can turn the Auto Focus off if you wish but you must remember to focus each shot before shooting since the camera won't do it for you. Pick up a couple books on photography and take some classes here at BP in order to learn how to do everything manually. The programs do not always give the best settings for the photos.

Laura, I shoot with a D40 and would love to help, but I am afraid, I don't understand exactly what are you asking. Pardon my English, as it is not my mother tongue. UB.
