Upgrading to Canon 60D

I have a Canon Rebel xsi - 450D - with a Canon EFS 17-55 lens, as well as a Tamron 18-270 lens, and I'm considering upgrading to a Canon 60D. First of all, are the lenses interchangeable? (I assume they are.) And I would appreciate anyone's comments on the positives and negatives of such an upgrade. I do mostly landscape and kid photography.
Thanks!

Hi Jeanne, Yes, all of your lenses (and any EF-S lenses) are suitable for both the EOS XSi (450D) and the EOS 60D.

Canon has definitely improved their camera's sensors and processors since the EOS 450D was designed. It has also added more features and a much larger LCD screen.

The EOS 60D is a fabulous camera with much higher resolution than your EOS XSi and also offers many other benefits.

However, the EOS 60D is also expensive. You can get almost all of the same features with the EOS T3i (EOS 600D). This is also fabulous camera at an affordable price. See below. Cheers! Peter

•18 Megapixel CMOS sensor
•DIGIC 4 processor with ISO 100-6400 (Expansion to 12800)
•Fully articulated 7.7cm (3.0 inch) LCD with 1,040k dots
•Full HD movie recording with manual control and selectable frame rates
•New 'Scene Intelligent Auto' exposure mode (replacing full auto)
•'Basic+' and 'Creative Filters'
•Integrated wireless flash control
•'Video Snapshot' mode for the creation of multi-take movies

Thanks so much! I do plan to upgrade to the T3I soon. You were the instructor for my first BP class when I goat the 450D, and you helped me learn to use it so much more effectively. Thanks again!

Hi Jeanne, Yeah, now I remember! You have a better memory than I do.

You will love the EOS 600D (EOS T3i). As good as the 450D (XSi) was for its time, the T3i is light years ahead in every respect.

No more complicated really but a truly fabulous camera!

Cheers! Peter

  Jeanne,
I recently upgraded from the Rebel xTi to the 60D. The 60D is a little bit larger which works well for me because I have large hands. The swivel LCD screen is REALLY nice and it will show you how your camera settings are affecting your photo. Even if the 60D is more expensive you can buy just the 60D body for the same price as you can buy the latest rebel. All of my old canon lenes are interchangeable with the new 60D. Also the 60D had 18MP. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I too was not sure if I should upgrade but I am not sorry at all. I really like my new 60D.

Thanks,Sandi - I still haven't upgraded - and reading all the reviews on-line haven't clarified it much. I have small hands, and the xSi fits me pretty well. I guess I need to go to a camera store and handle the T3i and the 60D. Thanks again!
