Photography Question

Kara L. Hendricks

An Invitation to all BP Photographers!

The Photogroup 101 will be having a "PEACE and HARMONY" Day and the date will be Saturday February 5th, 2011. One month after the Arizona Shootings.

Our goal will be to create images that speak against violence as a solution to
problems. Any interpretation or image you feel fits for ANY reason can be used. Although the original proposal was motivated by the violence in Tucson, Arizona, our goal is for photographers worldwide to adopt this challenge to ALL acts of violence. The suggested title of the image will be "Peace", "Harmony", etc., but you may choose a different title if you wish. You are encouraged to write a message of tribute in your caption that says you are participating in the "Peace and Harmony" Day and identifies whom you are honoring with your image.

Would you please encourage your other friends at BP to participate in our Feb.5th Peace and Harmony Day. If we can get broad participation from photographers world-wide, this can be an incredible experience!

HOPE YOU WILL JOIN US!

A challenging photo challenge, but one that will undoubtedly result in many interesting and thought-provoking images.
Thank you Richard Hallick for suggesting this idea; it was encouraging to hear Obama's remarks that the Congresswoman had opened her eyes for the first time.
Thanks, Kara for spreading the word!

love the idea. I didn't fully follow the whole thread on 101, and dont know if the idea came up, but was thinking that once the pictures were all posted, we could gather all the links or photos (of those who give permission) into one message and email it to friends and family.

A wonderful idea, Kara and Richard. This can be a time of thought and insight to all who participate, and hopefully in some way, a blessing to those who are affected by the violence in the world.

Thanks Kara for bringing it to the attention of all BPers. A great and noble initiative conceived by Richard Hallick and supported by many.

Would definitely take part, although it seems a challenging theme to shoot pics of, but hopefully would think of something that relates.

Such unfortunate incidents are happening in many parts of the world and more so in Pakistan where I am currently living.

Hoping this small yet important gesture from a very tiny group of photogs keep gathering momentum and we could reach a sizable number by Feb 5, 2011. As Richard mentioned in one of his group emails, "it will be all worth it, if it help save a single life". Amen to that.

UB.

Violence is a major problem in our world and we as photographic artists can add our support here with our images to promote peace and harmony among us all. I hope that many BP photographers, in addition to those of us who are members of Photogroup 101, will join us in this effort.

Thank you to everyone for joining this effort to fight against violence everywhere. I am looking forward to seeing all of your images and your tributes. The support this week for those of us who live in Tucson from many distant places has been wonderful. With our images, we have the potential to be a strong voice for peace and against violence not just in response to the mass killings near my home and not just at this moment in time, but anywhere and anytime.

Count me in, I'm from Mexico and you know that my dear country is living the worst times days in all history.

I pray every day for the United States to change the laws regarding weapons sale, since the 80% of confiscated weapons are from the United States.

I pray that one day, although I'll no see it in my life time, that are not more weapons in this world.

We do hear horrible stories about the violence in Mexico Elida... Unfortunately I don't think the sale of firearms will ever stop.. I have always held to the belief that GOOD men are not a threat with them... And the BAD men will always find a way to get one. So making them illegal will only keep the honest men/women from protecting themselves... It's a real shame we all have to live in a world like that.. Hoping this Peace and Harmony Day will show the unity between all of us who want some Harmony...:) Glad you are going to participate..

Hi Charlotte---the idea is that anyone who wishes to participate, will use their contest entry of Feb. 5th as the "Peace & Harmony" theme entry... and hopefully title (or at least caption) the image with that information---so you'd be able to scroll through the Contest Entries for 2/5 and see what they are.

I imagine a Forum thread might be started Saturday morning (good idea---Kara?) for people to post links to their uploaded theme image. (But since it isn't a BP theme, you can't use the Contest Category links to view just this set of images... people who participate in the "Peace and Harmony" upload, will still have to select one of BP's normal categories for their entry that day.)
