Lunar Eclipse tonight

Photographing the lunar eclipse tonight...

http://www.weatherscapes.com/techniques.php?cat=astronomy&page=lunar_eclipse

I will set up to shoot with ISO100, f/11 and full moon at 1/250s. When the moon goes to Gibbous, I will change my shutter speed to 1/125, then at 1st/last Quarter at 1/60, and when the moon in crescent my... shutter speed will be set to 1/30. I... will stay at f/11 & ISO100 and only change my shutter speed as the moon is being eclipsed. I will use my 100-400mm lens with a 1.4 extender and the challenge will be to get my focusing as sharp as I can as I have to maunally focus when using the 1.4 extender with the 100-400mm lens.
Of course I will be using my tripod and remote shutter release with IS turned OFF since the IS motor can cause vibrations that will affect the sharpness of the image. Its fairly clear in North Bend, Wa right now and I am hoping it remains this way but I still have about 3 hours before I start getting set up to shoot.

Thanks Carlton for your expert advice on shooting the eclipse. I had everything ready to go and do the same but to my dismay we had cloud cover and I didnt get to see or shoot it.

  Same here Patricia,
I had clear skies until about an hour before the eclipse started then the clouds rolled in and I could faintly see the reddish glow of the moon during the event but it was so obscured by the clouds, I never even snapped a shot.
I am really bummed as this doesn't happen that often.
Next time,
Carlton
