How to retrieve an image from a layer

All I can find of an image is the 11.7"x8.25" 360 dpi print file, with 2, 4"x6" images that I cannot find the original for.
If I remove the layer the image is trashed, if I take a png file it is at 72 dpi not 360 dpi.
The only solution I can think of is go to my tape back up file in the bank safety deposit box, and pray that the original is on it.
I took the image in 2003, but I really like it as an Xmas image.
Thanks,
Amanda

I figured it out. I just dropped 1 image out of the print file, and I had a 4x6 psd file!
