Camera Raw Plugin for CS4 Extended and Canon 50D

Hi. I have just acquired CS4 Extended, which comes with the Camera Raw 5.0 plugin, which does not support my Canon 50D. I've been searching around and have read that I should replace the Camera Raw 5.0 with the newer ACR 5.3 (the newest Camera Raw 6.0 version is not compatible with CS4). Before I do that I'd like to verify this a bit more with whomever might have experience in this (hopefully having done the same thing successfully, but enough people just being sure is okay too).

If this is what I should do, I assumed that I would go to my CS4 Extended plugin folder and delete the folder or file named Camera Raw 5.0.0, and then proceed to download the ACR 5.3. But when I went into CS4 through Windows Explorer, I could not find the Camera Raw Plugin in the Plugins folder or in any folder, for that matter--I searched them all! But when I am in my CS4 and click on Help and then Plugin and then Camera Raw, it says I have 5.0.0.

As it says in one place that it's essential to REPLACE the 5.0.0 with the ACR 5.3, I now don't know how to proceed. Any help would be very much appreciated!

I don't have CS4 but try looking here. Go to "Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS4\File Formats". I wouldn't delete the file, I would move it to the desktop and then put the updated .8bi file in the folder. Save the old .8bi file until you know the new version is working. When the new one is working, go ahead and delete the old file. Good luck.

Found it! Smart guy! I put it on my desktop like you said and will now try to download the other. Thanks!

How wonderful! I downloaded the ACR 5.3 in the same folder and it works! I haven't been able to shoot in RAW for months due to a huge glitch which made me have to go back to using CS2, which doesn't support RAW for my camera. How nice that Camera RAW box looks to me--just like home! Thanks again!
