Photography Question

D300 Noise

My friend wants to sell me his D300. However, when I took some high ISO (800, 1250, 1600, jpeg and raw) photos with his D300 and my D200, both set up exactly the same, the images from his camera were significantly noisier than those from mine. Does anyone have an idea about what might be causing this, and how to fix it?

Well, I own a D200 and I have tested the D300 and the D300 produced cleaner images.

Are you sure the photos you took were not under exposed (dark)? If so, that can make digital noise more problematic (when you lighten up the photos in software).

See a useful Review of this camera at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond300/page32.php

* Very good resolution and detail without looking over-processed, even up to ISO 1600
* Better balanced noise reduction than most; more chroma NR, less luminance NR
* High ISO 3200 perfectly usable (if slightly softer due to NR), ISO 6400 usable for small output

Cheers! Peter
