camera recommendation I have a 12 year old daughter who is enjoying learning photography. Although she probably still shoots in program mode 90% of the time, she is learning to play with manual modes as well. She uses my old panasonic FZ20 camera. I would like to get her a smaller camera that would fit in her bag so she can take it everywhere, but many pocket cameras don't have the manual controls. Anyone have a recommendation for a camera that would be smaller and have manual controls, as well as some point and shoot (mountains, flowers, sports mode, etc...)? Video would be nice, but not essential. A camera that takes nice photos would be great! Thanks!!!!

Hi Tara, I think the Canon Powershot G11 will fit the bill. 10MP, raw+jpeg, Manual control & movie function. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_g11 Carlton

Tara, its great that your daughter is starting so young. This could be a lifetime passion for her or even a vocation. My grandson started hiking and taking nature photos with me when he was 8. He is 11 now and still loving it. He uses a D80 and carries it, a tripod and a couple of lenses in a backpack. Sometimes I end up carrying his tripod.

wow. awesome responses. I like both options...I have the D80, but was hoping for something in a smaller package...that she can slip in her bag when she goes to a friend's house, etc.... I think there's a lot of sacrifice when you go smaller, so I'm trying to figure out whats worth what.
