Meter Hi Sean, What I am not understanding in spot meter is when I take different meter spots, what is the correct meter reading.Let's say I was metering flowers in a cloudy situation and shooting a bee. I would meter the flower, meter the bee,and meter a green leaf. What meter would I use? I think I would use a f16 A, but I would also need a fast shutter speed to get the bee.Because the area is cloudy and I can't get a high shutter speed even with a flash , how would you read the meter? Thanks, Mike

When taking photos with a flash attachment and have ETTL you do not need to take a light meter reading. Even without ETTL there is a way to figure out the proper f stop. Your subject is lit by the flash which has a speed of am minimum of 1/8000" to probably at least 1/40,000". Either one will stop the wings of a bee. Since you are using an f stop of f16 you will have enough DOF to include the flower. Set your shutterspeed for the fastest speed that the flash will accept, usually around 1/250" which will be enough to prevent any ghosting in the image. The flash will do the rest. If your flash is not the same brand as your camera you may have to set your shutter speed to 1/125". Read the manual. There is a time to use a much slower shutter speed also. If people are standing around a campfire at night with lights glowing in background tents and you want the flames to be blurry and the tents show their color but the people sharp this is what you do.
