Canon 10-22mm vs Sigma 10-20mm for Canon Rebel t1i

I am looking to purchase an ultra wide angle lens for my Canon Rebel T1i. However, I can't decide between the Canon 10-22mm or the Sigma 10-20mm lens. I've read many reviews and have been getting mixed reviews.

Can anyone offer me advice on which lens is better if cost wasn't a factor?

  Hi, Robin,

I have the Canon 10-22. It is an excellent lens and, I believe, you can't go wrong choosing it.

I have never used Sigma lenses so I won't draw a comparison.

As far as user reviews, there are only a few places that I would trust reviews online. I usually start with B&H Photo since I believe the reviewers there are not influenced by B&H folks and you can sift through reviews from "verified buyers."

Robin, I also have the Canon 10-22. I bought it about 4 months ago and can say it has been one of the best decisions I have made concerning my photography. It is lightweight and very sharp. I use it more than I every thought I would. I have never used a Sigma. I also read quite a few reviews and decided on the Canon.

I purchased the Sigma 10-20mm and no complaints. I don't think you can go wrong with either lens.

  Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your input!

One of the websites that was making me lean towards the Canon over the Sigma is below. This site shows the barrel distortion that is created by the Sigma lens. Unfortunately, there is no comparison with the Canon.

Have you guys noticed significant barrel distortion with the Canon lens?

I think all super-wide angle lenses are subject to some barrel distortion. But in some Canon literature (that I cannot find right now) they anticipated this and used some design elements found in L lenses to compensate. (Since I can't find the article, I don't have any technical details.)

That said, I have noticed a small amount of barrel distortion at 10mm but it is quite minor.

Thanks for everyone's input. I ended up going with the Canon. Just arrived today! I'm having fun testing it out.
