Making hair selections in CS5
Hello everyone!I am new to the site and have been trying to find my way around. I have been trying very hard to make selections of horses using CS5. I like to take the horse out of its original backdrop and place it on a more appealing digital back drop. I have no issues when it comes to the body but the mane and tail have caused me some major headaches. I have tried using channels, modify selection using the pen tool, and the mask technique. These work well enough but I still end up with bad hair selections. It leaves a grayish outline around the hair after I finish with my selection. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to make a clean selection of hair when it's blending into the back drop?

I don't have CS5 (yet =^) so I can't offer first-hand knowledge, but there is a video on this page that might help: http://www.photoshopuser.com/cs5 Look for the "Refine Selection Edges" video.
