Macro lens for Canon 50D

I would like to buy a new macro lens for taking photos of flowers, insects, etc. Would like a recommendation on a nice, yet affordable, lens.
Many thanks in advance.
Roberta

I have a Tamron 90mm which takes wonderful macros. However if I could afford to buy it, I would go with the Canon 100mm macro!

I agree that a 90mm or 100mm Macro lens is the best bet for nature photography.

The new Canon 100mm Macro with the new Image Stabilizer is fabulous but expensive.

I have tested the Tamron 90mm model. As Patricia said, it's excellent.

I would also recommend the Tokina 199mm Macro lens. See my Review of that one at

The Tokina is also a 100mm lens.
