Photography Question

Digital Darkrrom Category Ending??

I was just wondering if everyone else had noticed the steady decline in DD finalists in the past few months? This month only 21 finalists?? I mean think of the odds, half of them are going to win..:)

I was just hoping maybe someone from BP could chime in and explain why there has been so few finalists in there of late... I mean come on, there is no way that only 21 images were worthy... And I am not asking cause I was overlooked or anything..lol My only finalist this month was in DD.. So it's not personal, just wondering if BP has plans to discontinue the category or if it's nothing more than a a couple months of VERY few finalists.. Inquiring minds want to know..:)

Thanks for bringing this up, Kara. I have also noted the decline which I call the 'raising of the bar' for this category. However, it should be noted that the number of total entries submitted each month in DD category are usually less than in other categories, but still most of the time, the DD Finalist are the least even on ratio comparison. It could be that the Judge(s) for this category have high standards than the other category judges, this is assuming same judges do the judging for DD category each month. I am at a loss here too. Hope BP could throw some light on the matter.

Kara, I think it ebbs and flows. I remember one month the overall finalist ratio was 3 precent...Landscapes only had 1 percent and DD had about 5 percent. Then the next month, they handed out 20 Elements finalists. Next month, it could be a different category. We'll just have to see...

Thanks guys... I really am just curious... I just hope they aren't ending it... I figured if there were a category that they would do away with, it might be DD, simply because every cat. allows effects as long as you explain what you have done... So it makes sense that they might just forget about the DD category. and become liberal with what they except in all the others Again, it's all just speculation... Like Ken says, we shall see..:)

It seems that Digital Darkroom has evolved from a stand-alone entity into a common trend which now permeates into all other categories.

It would do BP proud to dissolve that category altogether and bring bring back Special Effects
(...but limited to IN-CAMERA effects only.)

That wouldn't leave anywhere for people like Kara to put their wonderful "creations"..
Yes, everybody has noticed that they seem to have lost their interest in that category.

I actually don't post in DD very much anymore Carolyn.. My main editing process when I do any effects at all, are textures for grungy appearance, and I don't think that is enough effect to go anywhere in DD anymore... Many images with textures are doing better in CA or whatever cat. they fit, subject wise... I am always careful to post on the image what I did... But you are right... I do love my grungy treatments...

Seems very few people do IN CAMERA anything nowadays... PS has become somewhat of a craze!! Which I am sure is a sore point for naturalists...:(

Thanks for chiming in guys!!
