Chastity: Best ... yeah, Photoshop CS4 but it's over $800. Frankly, I think you would be very, very happy with Photoshop Elements 7 at about $100. And sure, it has cloning and lots of other features.

A very good Alternative would be "Corel Paint Shop PRO X2". It's only $59.99 and it beats Photoshop in many ways. For an not so experienced user it has a very easy learning curve and has more native tools especially for retouching photos (in Photoshop, the best tools for retouching photos are plugins that you have to buy separate).

Try Gimp (www.gimp.org): it is completely free and it has lots of different effects in addition to cropping, cloning etc.

There's lots of software but if you want a standard, go with Adobe.

You can find many books and courses on Adobe software, such as Elements.

And if you need help, it's probable that some of your friends already know how to use it.

I've had Corel Paint Shop Pro X1/X2 for a few years. Cost is right, and it does tons of things, including what you're after. It has worked well for me.
