Photography Question

Jodi M. Walsh

photos for charity

I took pictures of a mural for a non-profit. The murals were painted over so the group wanted prints of the murals to display in the space where they were. They've since decided to offer the prints for sale as a part of a fundraiser but want to compensate me for the original photos. My question is, should I set a price for the photos outright or should I ask for a percentage of the sales?

I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with something like this.
Thanks

I don't have an exact experience with this but have donated prints to non-profits for fundraisers. I think if I was in your position, I would set a price for the photos instead of a percentage of sales. That way there is no ambiguity and both sides have a definite number. I work for a non-profit and it's always best to know specifics. ~April

Why not donate your share to the charity and write it off for taxes?

If it were me, I'd probably do as Dennis suggests. But I'll add that my agreement to donate them would include a requirement that my name as the photographer (and perhaps a credit box) appear on anything that's sold as well as on those hanging on their walls.
