Help Portrait Project

I just received the Strobist newsletter and inside was a link to an article about "Paying-it-forward" with the "Help Portrait" program.

I love this idea and in these very trying economic times, it would bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces. I dont know how many times I have been asked to do portraits by people that really cant afford to have them done, so it never happens. Lots of single moms with kids that are on shoestring budgets out there. I can afford to spend some time & pay for some prints out of pocket to make this happen and I am grateful that I am in a position that I can give to my community.

The brainchild of celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart, Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers, coming together in every major city, to use their photography skills to give back to the community. On December 12th, photographers around the world will be grabbing their cameras, finding people in need, and taking their picture. When the prints are ready, the photographs get delivered. Yep. It really is that easy. This is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits are not for your portfolio, website, or for sale. Money isn't involved here. This holiday season, you have the chance to give a family something they may have never had before- a portrait together.

Love in Light - Happy Thankful Day everyone,

Carlton

  Thank you DJ & Lynn,
This project is building up steam quickly and I am now working with Encompass who will provide the space for the shoot and they have contacts with many low-income families that are not reachable via the internet. We will have a poster by the end of today to distribute around to churches, etc and begin signing up families.
I have my Alien Bees & backdrops ready but am going to look for a few simple props like candy canes, etc that I can quicky include per each families preference.
There are many struggling families in my area and I hope this will make their holiday season a little brighter.
Blessings,
Carlton
