  Hello Maija,
I shoot raw and process them and then "save as" .tif - I still have my raw file plus a .tif file that I use for printing and other additional edits/enhancements and the ONLY time I save as image as a jpeg is when I size it down and add my copyright info for posting on the web or sending via e-mail. If you simply select "save" it will over-write the original file. I often "save as" an image that I may have 2 or 3 different edits on as a different filename so that I can bounce back & forth between the different versions, so I may be working on a tif HSMF002.tif and I want to keep that version as is so I will edit and save it again as HSMF002a.tif to create a different version.
Hope this helps,
Carlton
