Photography Question

Right click

Did anybody notice that the "right click" function enables anyone to download/copy/send pictures from BetterPhoto completely freely? How long has it been like that? I just noticed it and I am not thrilled....

  Joanna,

While betterphoto does have javascript blocking in most places, it is really impossible to save pictures from being downloaded. If you can see it on your screen, you can take a screen shot. Your best safety valves are:

* add a copyright/watermark
* keep images that you post small
* display and/or embed contact information in your photos

If you upload images that are 1000 pixels or less in any direction, that image can be printed at about 3.5 inches in high resolution. If you have the copyright displayed, you can sue (though that is not what I am encouraging) anyone who uses the images without your consent. Leaving your contact information leaves no excuse for taking without permission.

I hope that helps!

Richard Lynch

  Thank you, Richard. I am just concerned, because I remember, that the "right click" function did not work before. Thanks for the hints.
My best,
Joanna

  I use IE and I can not do a right mouse click on the image. But, I can do it for the thumbnail image..but BP has allowed this for some time. Are you referring to the actual image, or the thumbnail?

  Ken,
I check it and you are right. When you use IE it's impossible, but with Firefox right click open both thumbnails and images.

  OK, thanks for the clarification...seems like BP should make Firefox the same as IE. But as Richard says...it's very easy to do screen captures from the monitor...granted, the highest pixel resolution they'll get is 800 pixels but many people post 800 pixel-wide photos on other web sites and/or enter them into photo contests.

  Ken,
I just got an e-mail response from Brian Lobdell, who promised some help with the problem. I will certainly monitor it and keep you posted.
