at home camera I would love to hear what cameras some of you love. I use a Nikon D80 for portrait shots, but need a good at-home camera. I don't really want to take my D80 on hikes, to the zoo, to my niece's birthday, to my kids' ball games, etc... I also have a panasonic Fz20 (5mpx) but compared to my Nikon, the picture quality is not near as good, so I don't like to use it much anymore. I don't really want a point and shoot, but would like something less bulky with great picture quality. Any recommendations?

Hi Tara, My friend recently bought a Canon G10 and is very happy on the purchase. It is the top line in Canon point and shoots and has many functions and very compact as compared to the Nikon D80 that you currently have. The results are great too. Another good option is a Canon 1000 IS, it is cheaper than the G10 and also give very good results. Suggest you google these two to get more in depth reviews. Haope this helps.

I just bought the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 for the very reason you are mentioning - I didn't want to drag around a camera bag that weighs more than my youngest child when I take my four kids to a museum or the zoo. Have only had the Sony for a couple of weeks, but so far so good. It will never have the quality of my D3 and high speed lenses, but for the price it's a pretty awesome little camera. I especially like the 20x zoom, and the 1080 HD video capability. I now carry it with me everywhere :-) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/608517-REG/Sony_DSC_HX1_Cyber_shot_DSC_HX1_Digital_Camera.html (9.1 Megapixel 3" LCD Professional 20x Optical G-Lens 10fps High Speed Shooting Optical Image Stabilization HD Video Recording Sweep Panorama Mode Handheld Twilight Mode)

Hi Tara, I need to get one myself. I have an old Fuji Finepix S602 but at only 3.1MP I dont use it anymore, I am looking for something with 8+ MP and RAW shooting ability. As Usman suggested - I am considering the G10 but will also look at the Fuji's & Nikons. The technology for point & shoots is incredible now and my only beef is that many have limited DOF options. Cheers,

I feel sad that I have many many cameras and even I know how to use them and I have plenty of nice shots but still I see myself a hobbyist photographer, even I don't call myself photographer as long I didn't sell one photo and I don't have my own website and also I didn't have my personal gallery anywhere yet, so what I should do? I took many courses, read many things, practice always, what making me still not advanced level yet? I use those following cameras:

Thanks for your replies so far! This is exactly what I am looking for. The research can be overwhelming and I want to spend my dollars well as I also have other items on my photo wish-list! :) If anyone else wants to chime in, I would appreciate it! Carlton, would love to know what you end up with! Thanks!

My husband bought the Canon G10 a few months ago, and we've both been impressed. At 14 megapixels, tbe resolution is great, and it is capable of shooting in RAW. There's an optional waterproof housing (also by Canon), which works well underwater...at a reasonable price.

My husband has a G10 and absolutely loves it. Not long ago I got a Canon SX10, which I also love. It's a bit larger than the G10, but it's still quite portable. We highly recommend either one.
