Rights grabbing contests

Not sure if this is the proper category to place this, but I just received this comment from an organization I belong to:

"Costco is running a photo contest. Their Official Rule #10 is an egregious rights grab: "10...By participating, entrant agrees that ownership of the entry and all intellectual property rights in the entry is assigned to Costco...". They need to be made aware that this is not acceptable. You can log onto the Costco website, click on the Photo Contest button (on the right-hand side), and send them a message."

Just want to warn everyone to carefully read all the terms and conditions of contests you enter or anywhere you display your images. It's scary out there!

Thanks, Courtenay. Local photographers where I live sent out a message to each other last month about this. Guess this is another example of making sure to read the "fine print".

If it's their contest, they can make the rules.

Never said they couldn't. Just saying to read the rules carefully in these contests or you could end up losing the rights to your photos.

Thanks Bobby! Just a warning to those who may be unsuspecting, no other agenda! :-)
