Photography Question

Gord MacEachern

creating an image behind an existing image in PS

Hi everyone.
Just wondering how I can ps a sun or moon from another image behind a windmill.I made a sun from using the gradient tool and I have an image of a windmill that I would like to be able to put behind the windmill.
I can paste it in front of the windmill but I want it behind to show the silhouette behind.
I have Elements 6
Any advice would be appreciated.

paste it in front of the windmill.
Then erase the parts of the moon that overlay the parts of the windmill.

with the sun covering the front of the windmill and some of the thin blades how do you know were exactly to erase?

Hopefully you're familiar with the layers window.
You can change the opacity of the sun layer so the windmill slightly shows through. Or you can change the layer mode from normal to overlay, or screen.
And, you may not be familiar with this yet, you can use a layer mask to erase larger chunks of the moon, and then put back just the parts that don't overlay the windmill parts.
