Photography Question

Editor's Picks, finalists etc.....

I have a question. How do editor's picks get picked? I have seen many galleries with loads of EP, finalists, winners, POTD, etc. They have so many that they make separate photo albums.
Then there is me, and others like me who have some great photos but no EP's etc. on anything.
So just wandering how this works thanks

You enter them into the monthly contest and if they make it past the first round of judging, they get EP. Then from there, they can either place higher, be selected for POTD or not advance.

Editor's Picks represent uploaded photos that Team BetterPhoto has found especially interesting, eye-catching, or beautiful. They are simply contest entries that have moved on from Round 1 of the contest judging.

I get the impression that the question here is why so many good photos get passed over. This has been discussed often and many have noticed that there has been quite a reduction of EPs. As I kind of think of it as a healthy exercise in detachment, which actually has been successful in making me shoot higher for quality, and as I still get some; enough to keep my confidence up, I don't worry about it too much. Actually, I've had a lot less time to browse much for quite many months and don't even get to the forum much these days. But I must say I was a bit taken aback tonight and came to the forum to see what others were saying. Due to a kind comment I checked into someone's gallery that I hadn't seen for a long time, someone who comments a lot, and a very nice person, by the way. I was shocked to see the person was getting EPs right an left for photos that, once downloaded from my camera wouldn't even get through the first round of my usual selection process--like 'delete out of hand' photos. I'm talking about photos with extremely bad lighting, bad and ill-placed DOF, not just no great merit, no magic photos--but seriously flawed work. I was shocked and can only conclude that this person must be tagged in some way by BP as someone to encourage. I've heard people say this was going on before, but never paid it much mind--however, this little accidental encounter is proof if I ever saw it.
