Photography Question

Marta J. Baldwin

Approached to sell my photos by Gibson

I was approached through BP by a person named Gibson who proclaimed interest in buying some of my photos. The exact wording was...Hello,
We will like to order some of your Galleries and we will want it ship to our place: the destination where my order is needed is Darling Harbour,Australia but I know it is not easy to ship hear or out of your country,so I have check on the difficulties but there a courier service that I will have you use for the shipment of my order cause they have helped me out before in this type of situation, they will pick up from your door and deliver to my door without any shipping problems,so I hope to hear from you soon regarding my enquiry and to know where I can view your products you have presently in stock and if there is any special pricing I need to know about. Lastly regarding payment We would be sending Cashier Check for the payment?I hope to hear from you as soon as
possible.
Regards

Gibson

To me, this smells of some kind of scam and I haven't responded. The language alone makes me question the validity. Has anyone had a similar request lately? Or any comments at all. Of course I'd like to think that someone would like to buy my photos but I just feel like this isn't the real deal and I'm certainly not going to let ANY stranger come to my door to pick up anything. Please beware!!!!

Definitely a scam. I got two emails today from a guy in S. Africa....

Hi

I live in South Africa and tulips are a rare and very expensive flower in out country. A close friend of mine is fond of tulips….

Instead of buying the flowers I decided to search the web for a really special photo of tulips and make a photo quality print for her.

I came across a photo of yours that is truly amazing called – glisten.

I was hoping to buy a digital copy of the image.

I have no idea what you might charge or if you even do sell your images in digital format but will not know if I do not ask.

Thanks!

Herman Crause

Don't even respond. If you do, they'll know they have a live email and you don't want that. DELETE and forget about it. Have heard about these a lot. They're very common and follow similar patterns.

  Hi Marta,

I received the exact same email from Gibson from Australia. I instantly figured that its a scam. However, I recently also received another email reproduced below:

"Hello,
> My name is KJ,i will like to order for art work from you as a gift for my parents 55th wedding anniversary, because they love photos so much and I will like to know the list of the ones you have in stock and I will like to let you know that I will be making my payment with cheque,so if accepted get back to me to proceed.Thanks."

I am not certain if this is also a scam. Have sent emails to few of my friends here at BP to get their inputs and currently evaluating how to go about it. For sure, I will not start anything until I have all the funds in my account first!

  Hi Usman,
Thank you for responding. I'm sure now that this must be some kind of scam. You are smart to evaluate the situation and I urge you to not respond to these emails and definitly don't let anyone come to your home with promises of payment!

Take care,

Marta

I have received the same email form Gibson as well. The minute I have read it, it went to my trash. No doubt it is a scam.

I sent the one I got to Betterphoto and this is the response:

Hi Janet,

This is just a reminder to be careful about contact emails that you receive through your Basic Betterpholio.

We do our best to stop automated spam and scam emails, but manually typed in spam can get through any web contact form. We have several guidelines to watch out for listed at

http://www.betterphoto.com/spam-scam.php

One of the clearest signs of a scam email is that they ask to pay for a photo by check. If you suspect an email is a scam, it is best to delete the email and not respond.

Thanks and have a great week!

So, yes, all messages like this are scams so delete and forget about it.
