Need suggestions for Indoor Low Lighting.

I was asked to do some head shots to be used as PR for a local Board of Trustees in my community. I am concerned as they are meeting at a restaurant where lighting will be a problem. My gear is; Nikon D50, Nikon Speedlight SB 600 and I wanted to use my Nikon AF 50mm 1:1.8D lens. I will be using a tripod and thought changing the ISO to 800, working a little off centered to avoid harsh shadows from the flash. Can anyone give me a little more guidance? Should I use a different lens, maybe a 18-55m or 28-105mm? Also, the ceiling are low, so that might help. Thanks for the support.

You might look into the Gary Fong Lightsphere...I know several people that have one and really enjoy it for flash photography.
