Photography Question

Francesco Cristofaro

How do people see my uploaded images

Hello friends,

forgive me, I'm the new guy around here.

I've uploaded an image of mine, just a few minutes ago.

My question is, does Better Photo have a department where other members can see new uploads?

I've had a quick look at the suspected locations like critique and friendly praise - perhaps I didn't look hard enough?

Until you get used to my questions, you'll have to get used to my silly ways!

Frank.

  Friends,

I found it!

Photos and new uploads. Currently I'm on page 6.

I trust the image looks ok. I'm happy with it, although it's nowhere near the 2.5MB max size.

This was originally a raw image and I saved as a tiff file. The original file was about 69MB.

Frank.

  Hello Frank,
Better Photo has guidelines for uploading photos:
"The shorter dimension (the width for a portrait; the height for a landscape) should be a maximum of 500 pixels. This is because the programming that makes the Web versions of your image automatically reduces larger images to be 500 pixels on the shorter dimension, and it is good to have these two numbers as close as possible before uploading.
So a portrait will likely be something like 500 (wide) x 750 (high) and a landscape will likely be something like 750 (wide) x 500 (high)"

Unless you are uploading to a stock agency for sales or MPIX for printing, I would keep the images small & © copyright protected to deter anyone from stealing the image. Even though right click is disabled on Better Photo, a lot of photos posted here have been found on Flikr and other sites. You can never prevent a screen capture of any photo but the smaller the size, the less the thief can do with it.
my .02 - Carlton

  Hello Carlton,

thanks for your comment and advice.

I believe my resulting image is quite small, so I'll stick with what I'm doing.

I was concerned about how it would look, and it seems ok.

Frank.

That's not what I see, Vicky. What I get here of Francesco's photo of Milford Haven Marina is exactly 750x500 pixels.

Where did you get that from, Vicky? That's not what I see. What I get here of Francesco's photo of Milford Haven Marina is exactly 750x500 pixels.

Its the upload size of the site, not his photo.

To piggy back on what Vicki says...yes...BP changed it to 800 max. It's easy to confirm...take a large-sized photo; e.g., 3000 pixels, and resize to 800. From your monitor, measure it with a ruler...then, upload to BP and compare the size. It should be the same pixel size. Next, take the same 3000 pixel sized photo and upload..and you'll see that BP will reduce it to 800 pixels..not 750. And you can also resize an image to 750 to see the subtle difference. You can open up different browser windows to compare. Of course...that's not to say BP hasn't changed it again...

Also, if you have an image less than 800 pixels max, BP will simply retain "as is." They won't make it bigger to fit the 800 max.
