CANON SLR 5D

The 2" x 1" mirror slides just inside the body came loose. Should I try to put it back myself or do I have to send it into CANON? Or should I bring it to a repair shop? It's under warranty. Thank you! I really need my camera for family Christmas parties!!! Laura

  Laura,

Unless you have some good mechanical skills with camera's, and since it is still under warranty; I would advise you have the work done under warranty.

You can do it yourself, but that will void the warranty.

I looked up the 5D mechanical schematic.
The mirror is glued in place in case you are wondering, so re-attachment is not difficult.

Again, unles you have some experience with camera repair; I'd leave it alone.

I feel for you as I know most camera shops will send out warranty repairs to the respective manufacturer..The turn around times are not fast.

Thanks Pete. I agree with you. I want to try to put them in the right place, just don't know how they should be. I won't use glue of course. I will have to send it back to CANON directly myself and yes, it will take time. terrible timing. it looks like the black one snaps back in place, where the plastic one doesn't and the little tab might have chipped off. I was trying to put another lens (EF-S) in that I learned later wasn't compatible. I think that's what did it. This is my biggest joy to take photos of family at Christmas, so this is very bad timing. Thanks for your advice. I agree.
