focus issues I am new to this forum and trying to figure out manual mode on my camera. I am having issues with focus. When I do a close up I love the look but when I zoom out (keeping my focal point between the eyes) it seems to come out blurry on the face. I need to work on lighting, posing and focus but right now focus is my main concern. Any help is appreciated.

Do you half-press the exposure button BEFORE you zoom out, or AFTER, Nicole? In most cameras half-pressing the exposure button is focus lock. What gear do you use?

"Zoom in to focus, then zoom out to shoot" worked with manual focus zooms that were parfocal - focus point remains constant through the zoom range. That method doesn't work with most autofocus zoom lenses. Their design is usually varifocal, focusing to different distances at different zoom settings. You have to zoom to the focal length you want for the picture, and then autofocus.

P.S. - I probably wasn't clear in the last sentence. With most autofocus zooms lenses, zoom to the focal length desired first, then focus (either manual or auto).

Looks like you might benefit from using spotmetering and recompose, Nicole.

Oops! "Looks like you might benefit from using spotmetering and recompose, Nicole." and, if your camera has it, you may want to use 'flex focus'.
