WHICH CAMERA TO BUY I have a budget of $1200 and am presently using a Canon Rebel K2, with a kit lens (28-90mm) and a 75-300mm 1:4-5.6III lens. I have decided to go digital and am wondering what I ought to buy.....My budget limits me from going for a good lens and a good body.....I have two options either go for a Canon 450D with a Kit Lens or a Canon 40D with a kit lens again....Will my old lenses be a total loss with the digital camera?

While the cheap kit 18-55 lens is, well, a cheap kit lens, it is as good or better than your cheap kit 28-90. Plus it is a more useful zoom range on the 450D/40D giving you the same wide to short tele utility on the digital cameras that the 28-90 gives you on the K2. Both of the lenses you current have will work fine on the digital EOS.

Have you considered a 30D? Still a really, really nice camera and some outfits are still selling them new with really nice kit lenses. Body and nice lens for $999 at amazon, 1150 at B&H.

$1150 for 30D at B&H includes the EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM lens, a significant upgrade from the 18-55 kit lens. 40D with that same lens is only $70 more and a much better buy, IMHO.

Dear Jon and Leslie, Firstly I would like to thank you gor the valuable inputs. I will get the prices for 30D & 40D with the USM Lens. I am much more clear on the subject now, and am relieved to know that my 75-300 can be used with the DSLR. Warm regards, Dinesh
