Problem with 430ex flash

I just bought a canon 430ex flash and was initially able to adjust the exposure stops, but now I can't adjust anything. The zoom focal length keeps flashing (no number in it though) and seems to be locking up my ability to control the flash, although my flash does go off. Any ideas? I've exhausted Google. Any help is appreciated!

The 430EX's LCD panel flashes and auto-zoom is disabled when the built-in wide angle diffuser is not stowed all the way into its slot.

Or make sure the flash head is level. If you tilt the head just a little bit up or down and not level, this could happen (for example, bounch light). HTH.

Thank you for the suggestions, but neither seems to be the problem. Any other ideas? I am thinking I need to bring it to a repair shop. :(

  Hi Natalie,
Make sure the flash is seated all the way in the hot shoe and locked down.
