Photography Question

How to batch resize my images

I am currently using Lightroom 2.0 and photoshop CS3 Extended and am wondering how to batch resize my images. I am also wondering how to determine the correct pixels and resolution for low res images, med res images, and high res.

Thanks,

Christina

  Hi Christina,
I used a program called Irfanview for batch resizing when I used a PC but they dont make it for MAC (which is what I use now). Irfanview will let you select your size (such as 500 pixels on the short side) and process accordingly.
As far as resolution sizes, it depends on what file size you are starting with. I shoot a raw file that is about 12MB but after editing in PS and saving it as an uncompressed .TIF - it saves at about 50MB.
For posting here at BP or sending the image through e-mail, I resize my images to 600 x 900 in Photoshop and save as jpeg and select my quality at about an 8 or 9 to keep the image in the 150KB to 300KB range.
I have yet to figure out batch resizing in Photoshop myself & I read the help menu and other material that did not explain the steps to make this work, so I am hoping that if someone here knows the steps in PS to batch resize, please reply.
Peace always & all ways - Carlton

On a Mac the simplest way is to import your photos into iPhoto, and then export them again (under File in the menubar) at the desired image quality and size settings, selectable from presets.

Have fun!
