Disappearing threads

Why do threads in this forum (and presumably the other BetterPhoto forums) sometimes disappear?

I've read a couple and couldn't see anything controversial about them then Zap! they're gone! What's that all about?!

maybe Andy left and now Barney is in charge.

Donna, I think a lot of times the threads are re-categorized because they are started in the incorrect category. I'd like to see more/new categories added, because sometimes it's difficult to find a good place to post a question or comment.

Any thread which goes off on a tangent toward dangerous ground will usually get yanked.

"Dangerous ground" among other things, can be interpreted as vile or disparaging remarks toward an individual member or to BP policy in general.

Any thread that gets vulgar or obsene is immediately removed as well.

"I've read a couple and couldn't see anything controversial about them then Zap! they're gone!"

Maybe someone posted something deemed a little too "dangerous" that you didn't see and Ol' hyper-kinetic Barney decided it was best to "...Nip it in the bud".

Yea, they're a bit inconsistent about it, it seems :)

A reasonable person might think that if a single "offensive" post was made, they could just censor that one post, like forums everywhere else on the web do.

However, most of the time, it seems, threads, for whatever reason, are recategorized into the never-neverland category of "More...", but not actually deleted. Which is almost as good as deleting, since very few people will ever find it in that that thread wasteland ... which I presume is BPs intent (delete with denyability :D )

(I wonder how long it takes for this thread to get banished to la-la-land?)

I've seen them remove content and leave a controversial thread as well. If it's a thread you've responded to you should be able to find it in your admin area. I think a thread has to get pretty ugly before it disappears completely then who can blame them?

Could depend on who's doing the watching. I had an avatar changed that I've used several times before.

  That's my point.
Not a problem for Andy, but a problem for Barney.
